The school's History Department participated in a Hong Kong secondary schools’ oral history report competition "Tell the Stories of People Around Us" on the topic "Reform and Opening Up Policies", organized by the Hong Kong Education Bureau and The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Two teams of students achieved the following awards:
Merit Award:
5C CHEN YIKE
5D LEE TSZ WAI
5D LEUNG JINGSI
Commendation Award:
6C TONG YAN YUET GRACE
6C SIT SUM NOK
6C TAN YEE MAN
The students utilized oral history methods to interview two guests. Mr. Hui, who established a factory in mainland China in the 1980s, witnessed the development and the social changes driven by the reform and opening up policies. Another interviewee is Ms. Cheung, who worked for an international aid organization and went to Ningxia to assist the development of ethnic minorities based on the policies. Their stories were both fascinating and resonated with the history of China's reform and opening up policies.
Through this process, the students explored oral history by conducting interviews and writing reports, while learning about the history of China’s reform and opening up polices beyond textbooks. The entire experience and its outcomes are indeed invaluable.
