Our students, Lee Cheuk Sin Joyce, Chan Hoi Yeung Owen, Wong Man Lok Rico and Yeung Kwong Castor, participated in the 57th Joint School Science Exhibition held at the Central Library from August 20 to August 26, 2024.
This year’s theme of the JSSE was “Continuity along science, Progression achieves Excellence”. Our science team presented an innovative product: “Algae-based Heavy Metals and Microplastic Filter Device”. This device is designed to be placed near shorelines, filtering out harmful heavy metals and microplastics from seawater.
The aim of the device is to combat contamination caused by heavy metals and microplastics, which pose significant risks to human health and marine ecosystems. By preserving marine biodiversity, we strive to protect the ocean's magnificent life forms. The device utilizes solar panels to power the operations, such that the sea water enters the device through tidal movements. The algae beads within the device carry out a biosorption process to absorb heavy metals, allowing cleaner water to be released back into the ocean.
Our product gained applause from the public during the exhibition. The dedication and hard work of all project holders and demonstrators were greatly appreciated. We hope our science team continues to innovate and contribute to environmental solutions. Keep up the great work!
